Alzheimers Day Care

This project involved the construction of a single storey Day Care and Respite centre within the confines of a protected walled garden in the grounds of the Daughters of Charity Convent in Blackrock. The new building houses a bedroom wing, catering and resource areas, offices and training centre.

The brick and stone walls surrounding the Daughters of Charitys’ orchard garden is a protected structure. In the course of building works, these walls were maintained and protected while a small amount of rebuilding work was carried out at project completion to facilitate the pedestrian entrance.

• Designed by Niall McLaughlin Architects the project involved many innovative design concepts which in turn challenged the builder to provide innovative solutions on site.
• Externally, timber features strongly in the form of window cills and heads, timber fins and projecting eaves surrounding all of the timber windows.
• Timber cladding also marries in with a brick exterior elsewhere.
• The majority of the carpentry and joinery work was carried out on site by our own carpentry staff.
• New stainless steel spiral stairs was added to the gable of the building allowing egress from each floor in the event of fire.
