Sandford Park, founded in 1922 is a small private co-educational school set in 2.5 hectares of wooded grounds in Dublin 6.
Working with architect Derek Tynan, we undertook the refurbishment of the main school house, a three-storey over basement protected structure. A traditional residential house to look at, it needed to accommodate computer and resource rooms as well as a locker room in the basement, staff and administrative space on the ground floor and accommodation for the ‘live in’ school Principal and Vice Principle on the first and second floors respectively.
The project required a complete upgrade of fire proofing M&E and IT throughout and the installation of a new lift to improve accessibility to the rear of the building.
Large sections of the roof were stripped and re tiled to accommodate the installation of new water tanks and the chimney dismantled and rebuilt to resolve water ingress issues. Other interventions such as lime harling to the gable wall drew on our conservation experience and skill set.
